What months do you operate? Memorial Day through Labor Day

What times / days does the ferry go out? Weekends only May and June at 11:00, 2:00 and 3:30. July and August: weekends at 11:00, 12:30 and 2:00; Monday, Thursday and Friday at 11:00 and 3:00; Tuesday and Wednesday at 11:00.

How many people can you take on the ferry? Maximum 49

How long is the trip out to the island? 45 minutes

How long are we on the island? 1-1/2 hours

How long is the entire trip? Approximately 3 hours

What are the prices? Adults $28.00, Children 4-12 $16.00, Children under 3 $7.00, plus ticketing fees.

Do you have senior prices? $23.00

What age is a senior? Age 62

Do we have to book online, or can we buy tickets when we arrive? It is recommended to book your reservation online to secure a seat. You can book at The ticket booth is open one hour prior to departure for ticket sales.

What happens if it rains? The captain on duty will determine if the weather conditions will not allow us to go out. Tickets are non-refundable unless there is a weather cancellation by the captain.

Are pets allowed? No pets allowed on the ferry or island. Except service dogs.

Are we handicapped accessible? Yes, the boat and grounds. There are steps that need to navigated to get on and off the boat.

What is there to do on the island? Enjoy a cruise aboard the ferry, visit the Lighthouse, walk along the nature trails and bring a picnic lunch.

Do you charge extra to visit the lighthouse? No.

Is there a tour guide for the lighthouse? Yes, we have island staff available for tours.

Can we go into the tower of the lighthouse? The tower section of the Lighthouse is closed for renovations as this time.  We invite our guests to use our newly-installed antique telescope to capture magnificent views of the city and Sound.

Is there food available to buy on the island? Snacks only (hot dogs, chips, soda, and water)                                                

Can we bring our own food? You may bring your own food and beverages.

Are there picnic tables? Yes, there are picnic tables available under a tented picnic area.

Friday night cruise– can we bring our own food/drinks? Yes, you can bring your own food and beverages.

Clambakes– can we bring our own drinks?  Iced Tea and Lemonade is available. You may bring your own beverages.

Can you take camps out to the island? Yes, you can contact the office at 203-838-9444 to make a group reservation.

Can we go camping on the island? Camping is not allowed on Sheffield Island.

Can we cook on a grill on the island? No open fires are allowed on the island.

Can we book a private event? Yes, you can contact the office at 203-838-9444 to book a private event.

Are there bathrooms on the ferry? On the island? Yes, there are facilities available on the ferry and on the island.

Can we swim? Swimming is allowed off the beach only at your own risk.

Can we fish? Fishing is not allowed.

What is the cost for boaters to come to Sheffield Island? Private boaters will be charged $10.00 per person. Moorings are available in front of Sheffield Island on a first-come, first-served basis.

How can I book a Metro North package? You can contact the office at 203-838-9444 to reserve your seat for a Metro North package. Metro North / Sheffield Island tickets are purchased at Metro North Stations.

Where is the dock located? We are located at 4 North Water Street in the parking lot of Maritime Aquarium Imax Theatre.

Is parking available? Where? There is pay-for-parking available at the dock at 4 North Water Street as well as the Maritime Parking Garage.
